Day02 SUN or THU. GUATEMALA-CHICHICASTENANGO: 

In the morning you will depart for the picturesque town of Chichicastenango. One of the main reasons for a trip to Chichicastenango is to participate in the market, which is held only twice a week and deserves its fame. Day 03 MON or FRI. CHICHICASTENANGO-SOLOLA-ATITLAN: 

Morning depart for Solola to visit one of the major market centers. The market is filled with indigenous people -with very colorful and distinctive dresses-who have journeyed from all over the area to sell and buy produce. In the afternoon continue to Panajachel for overnight at Hotel Del Lago, located on the shores of Lake Atitlan.(AB)

Day 4 TUE or SAT. ATITLAN-ANTIGUA: 

Morning motor-launch trip on Lake Atitlan - "one of the most beautiful lakes in the world". with its 3 volcanoes in the background -San Pedro, Toliman and Atitlan. You will visit one of the twelve interesting indigenous lake shore villages. Their inhabitants are for the most part descendants of the Cakchiquel and Tzutil Indians. Mid-day continue to the old Capital of Guatemala "Antigua". Overnight at Hotel Casa Santo Domingo or Camino Real Antigua.(AB)

Day 05 WED or SUN. –ANTIGUA-GUATEMALA

Morning guided tour of Antigua, which is a national monument of the Americas. A very pleasant city of cobble stones streets, houses and mansions with colonial-style facades and tile roofs. Your tour guide will take you to visit churches, convents, monasteries and other colonial buildings. Afternoon return to Guatemala City for overnight at Hotel Barcelo. (AB)

Day 06 THU or MON. GUATEMALA-TIKAL: 

Today you will go back more than 2,000 years in time when you visit the Tikal National Park. Early morning you will be picked up at your hotel for transfer to the airport to board the flight to Flores, Petén . On arrival, our representative will take you to the Mayan City of Tikal which is located in the center of the National Park that bears its name, and has an extension of 222 square miles. Tikal was inhabited from 600 BC., till 869 AD. Its highlight was between 690 till 850 AD., a time period known by archaeologists as the Late Classic. Visit the Twin-Pyramid Complexes “Q” and “R”, Lost World Complex where the Great Pyramid and Temple 5C-49 are the most important. Also, visit Temple III and the Palace of the Windows, the Great Plaza, squared off with the pyramids of the Grand Jaguar and the Masks, the Palace of the Nobles, and Pyramid IV. This one is the highest of the Mayan pyramids, from its top a complete view of Tikal and its surrounding jungle can be enjoyed. In the afternoon transfer to Santa Elena’s Airport to board the flight to Guatemala City. On arrival, our representative will transfer you to Hotel Barcelo Guatemala. (AB,L)

DAY 05 THU. CHICHICASTENANGO-ATITLAN- GUATEMALA

Begin the trip that will take you through El Progreso and Zacapa.  Continue to Copan, Honduras. Here you will visit the archaeological site which contains one of the greatest collection of Mayan sculptures anywhere in Central America. Time to visit the main Plaza, its Temples and the complete Ball Court. Overnight HOTEL POSADA REAL. (B)
DAY 09 TUE. COPAN-PUERTO BARRIOS
After breakfast return to Guatemalan territory to continue to Quirigua, where you will find 12 carved stelaes, 4 enormous carved stones of mythological forms and unrestored temples. Day 08 Mon. GUATEMALA-TIKAL: 

Today you will go back more than 2,000 years in time when you visit the Tikal National Park. Early morning you will be picked up at your hotel for transfer to the airport to board the flight to Flores, Petén . On arrival, our representative will take you to the Mayan City of Tikal which is located in the center of the National Park that bears its name, and has an extension of 222 square miles. Tikal was inhabited from 600 BC., till 869 AD. Its highlight was between 690 till 850 AD., a time period known by archaeologists as the Late Classic. Visit the Twin-Pyramid Complexes “Q” and “R”, Lost World Complex where the Great Pyramid and Temple 5C-49 are the most important. Also, visit Temple III and the Palace of the Windows, the Great Plaza, squared off with the pyramids of the Grand Jaguar and the Masks, the Palace of the Nobles, and Pyramid IV. DAY 01 WED or SAT  USA-GUATEMALA
Arrival in Guatemala City. Transfer to a hotel in the city for overnight accommodations at the Hotel Barcelo Guatemala.

 

DAY 02 THU or SUN  GUATEMALA-CHICHICASTENANGO

Today is market day in Chichicastenango! At 07:00 a.m., you will be picked up at your hotel for transfer to Chichicastenango. Visit the most colorful and picturesque Indian open-air market in the country. Hundreds of Indians from the surrounding countryside gather to barter their goods and products. Also, witness the captivating religious ceremonies held on the steps and inside the 400-year old Church of Santo Tomás (No shorts or bathing suits are allowed inside the Church, PLEASE NO PHOTOGRAPHS INSIDE THE CHURCH). Overnight accommodations at Mayan Inn.

 

DAY 03 FRI or MON CHICHICASTENGO-ATITLAN

This morning you will be transferred to Atitlán Lake, where at 09:00 a.m., you will board the motor launch to cross Lake Atitlán to the picturesque Indian village of Santiago Atitlán, one of the twelve lake-shore villages surrounding the Lake. Enjoy this bustling Indian community, where weavers work the colorful textiles. Overnight accommodations at Porta Hotel del Lago (see other below). (B)

 

DAY 04  SAT or TUE ATITLAN-ANTIGUA

In the morning, transfer to Antigua Guatemala, the most important and enchanting city of colonial Guatemala. Founded by the Spaniards in 1543, nowadays Antigua Guatemala is a beautiful blend of ruins, restored colonial buildings, and new buildings in colonial style. It was declared “Monument of America” in 1965. Visit the Central Plaza that is surrounded by the antique Cathedral, the Municipal Government Building, and the Palace of the Captains General; colonial churches and monasteries, primitive foot-looms where colorful textiles are woven, and a jade factory where this stone is worked into beautiful jewelry. In the afternoon, transfer to Guatemala City (B)

 

DAY 05 SUN or WED GUATEMALA

Day at leisure or take an optional full day excursion to TIKAL. ( For those going to Tikal they will depart early morning for the city of Flores where you will be motored over jungle trails to the 2,000 year old Capital of the Mayan Empire -Tikal - here, your tour guide will take you to visit the many pyramids, temples, palaces and buildings left by this great society. DAY 06 MON or THU GUATEMALA-PANAMA

DAY 07 TUE or FRI PANAMA

Panama City is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and beautiful city, Capital of the Republic of Panama, and located at the Pacific side of the American Continent. Built in 1519 by Pedro Arias Davila, a Spanish Governor, it has been considered as on of the most important cities of the Americas. 

You will visit the oldest sector of modern Panama, known as the Casco Viejo. Other points of interest are the famed flat arch or Santo Domingo Church, the beautiful gold- plated altar of the San Jose Church, the Panama Canal Museum, the National Theater, the National Cathedral, the Presidential Palace and other numerous colonial churches and monuments. Then your tour will continue to see modern Panama   and The Banking District and its beautiful Skyscrapers .The city is and important center of international finance and is home to more than 120 banks. Continue to visit  Miraflores Locks &  Panama Canal: Participants will be able to witness the magnificent Miraflores Locks and most probably, its operation.  An expert canal guide will take us back in time to be part of it.  What a way to experience this magnificent architectural masterpiece and to have a breathtaking view of the 8th wonder of the

 

Day 08 WED or SAT  PANAMA EMBERA VILLAGE

Depart in the morning by car and then by boat going thru a fascinating and dense jungle to visit the Embera Village.. You will arrive at a village of the Emberá. Indians, one of seven indigenous tribes in Panama. The people of the Emberá tribe will welcome you at the pier and gladly give you an idea on how they live. The Emberá Indians will experience an authentic view into thousands of years of culture and human tradition, who already were there before the Europeans arrived to the Americas.
