ABOUT THE GAMBOA RAINFOREST RESORT

Gamboa Rainforest Resort is a luxury destination resort located on the Panama Canal, in the heart of the lush Panamanian rainforest. The resort has been carefully designed to provide a variety of educational and adventure experiences. Exploring the rainforest has never been easier, since all of the attractions and most of the tours are found right on the property, or only minutes away from your doorstep.

Gamboa Rainforest Resort is located within the Soberania National Park, 30 minutes away from Panama City on the Pacific Coast, and 30 minutes from the Colon Free Zone on the Caribbean. It also lies along the banks of the Chagres River and Gatun Lake, the main water sources for the Panama Canal and part of Panama's most precious assets.

The Soberania National Park is a tropical rainforest where a vast diversity of flora, mammals, birds, insects and reptiles coexist in one of the world's most complete ecosystems. To help you better understand the complexity of this remarkable ecosystem, Gamboa has created several exhibits to showcase the vast diversity of the rainforest's flora and fauna. Strolling along the pathways and trails located throughout our resort, you'll discover a variety of educational exhibits, each one designed to explain a different element of the rainforest. You can visit the freshwater fish aquarium, orchid and botanical gardens, butterfly nursery, turtle and iguana nesting areas, a reptile exhibit, historical and cultural displays, or sign up for various nature and observation tours.

The first class marina provides tours of the Chagres River and Lake Gatun, sport fishing trips for peacock bass and other exotic freshwater species (catch and release only), kayaking trips, and tours to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute on Barro Colorado Island.

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) plays an important role in the development of the educational exhibits and tours. In addition to providing information for the exhibits, STRI also helps train Gamboa tour guides and assists in the resort's mission to increase conservation awareness. The resort's exhibition spaces will also be research sites for resident .

Gamboa and the surrounding Panama Canal area have been protected and preserved for over a century, and large tracts of tropical rainforest, rich in biodiversity, are host to thriving plant and animal populations.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The Hotel's Main Builing was built in the year 2000 with spacious modern rooms according to the highest hotel standards of a five star property. All of 140 rooms and suites come with minibar, electronic safe deposit box, satellite TV, crystal showers, hair dryers, makeup mirror, iron/ iron board, coffee/ coffee makers, monogrammed robes, fire protection system and balconies overlooking the Chagres River and the Rainforest.

HISTORICAL VILLAS

Adjacent to the main resort building, 48 tropical wooden construction apartments built in the 1930´s for the Panama Canal Administration officers, have been carefully renovated and decorated with charming tropical furniture. There is a total of four apartments in each one of the Villas. All Historic Villa Apartments come with separate Living Room areas, kitchenette with wet bar, sink and fridge, coffee/ coffee makers ,bathtubs in each of the bathrooms, satellite TV, Voice Mail data ports and Ceiling Fans as well as Air Conditioning units, which are individually controlled. All Apartments have lovely wooden floors and spectacular views of the Rainforest.

One Bedroom Apartment
The One Bedroom Apartments consist of one large living room area with two sofas and a dinning table for four. Separately you will find the Main Bedroom with one Queen Size Bed.

Two Bedroom Apartment
The Two Bedroom Apartments consist of one large living room area with two sofas and a dinning table for four and Two Separate Bedrooms and one bathroom, which connects to both bedrooms. The Main Bedroom contains one Queen Size Bed and the Secondary Bedroom has two Twin Size Beds, which makes it ideal for families. Bed Types can by changed in advance if requested.

The hotel has 4 restaurants: Carotu serving Breakfast, Lunch and dinner daily and Sunday brunch; Chagres River view restaurant for fine Dining and unique wine selection; Los Lagartos restaurant with tropical cuisine and beautiful view of the river and the Canal; Iguana Cafe for great coffe, tea and snacks; 2 bars (The Monkey and Las Cascadas and a the best Jungle Discoteque "Capibara" to finish your day in a happy note.

THE AERIAL TRAM TOUR & EXHIBITS :

Discover the secrets of the upper rainforest canopy with a ride on the Resort aerial tram. The tram takes you from the shadowy rainforest floor through the under growth and into the sun drenched canopy. There you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of a thousand acres of green forest interspersed with flora and fauna.

You will also visit the Orchid Gardens, the Serpentarium, the butterfly exhibit, the reptile and fish exhibit.

NATURAL SURROUNDINGS
The aerial tram is located in 100 hectares of rain forest licensed to Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Here one finds an exuberant flora and fauna typical of Panama's neo-tropical forests. Flora includes species such as the Guarumo (Trumpet tree), Manglillo, Mangavé, Higo de Montaña, Espavé (Wild Cashew), Balsa, and others. This impressive plant diversity is the food source for all kinds of indigenous animals including these mammals: Coatimundi, Peccary, Howler Monkey, Squirrels, Capybara, and Sloth. Beautiful birds such as Toucans, Trogons, Parrots, and Momots are also plentiful. Reptiles and amphibians found in the Panamanian forests include: Caimans, Iguanas, and dozens of species of frogs. At the bottom of the evolutionary scale is the world of the insects, many of which are beautifully colored such as butterflies, dragonflies, cicadas, and others.

ROUTE:
The aerial tram travels 1.2 kms. thorough the canopy of the forest in 72 minutes, not including time spent at the lookout. Its speed is no greater than 1 m/s. so you can enjoy the most.

CAPACITY:
There are 18 gondolas with a total capacity for 86 passengers, including interpretative guides. Two of these gondolas hold 3 passengers + the guide, with space for a wheelchair. The other gondolas hold five persons + the guide

LOOKOUT:
This is a square, steel and wood structure with a concrete base. The tower is 30 mts. high and 9 mts. wide, including an access ramp that spirals around the tower. The lookout is located at the top of the tower and offers a 360-degree, panoramic view of the Panama Canal, the Chagres River, and the surrounding tropical rain forest.
