OCT 25 MON – MIAMI/QUITO XL #517 16:15P/19:25P (Check with LAN Ecuador Airlines (1-866-435 9526) Depart Miami for Quito, Go through customs and immigration. Transfer to the centralized 5 star Colon Hilton. (Snack on plane)

 

OCT 26 TUE - QUITO- Today an afternoon City Tour.  Drive through this beautiful city and its colonial center visiting the Cathedral, Government Palace, the La Compania Church with its ornate golden alters, then drive through modern Quito. Overnight at the Hilton Hotel. (B)

 

OCT 27 WED – UIO/GYE/BALTRA XL #1551 06:25A/08:45A.  Very early departure to the airport for your flight to the Baltra.  Upon arrival a 10 minute ferry ride to Santa Cruz Island. Check-in to the 14 room Aventura Lodge followed by lunch. Begin at your tour at La Loberia where you can snorkel with the sea lions and enjoy a 40 minute navigation of Tortuga Bay.  Later a short hike through a prickly pear forest to see a marine iguana nesting site.  Briefing and dinner at the Aventura Lodge. OCT 28 THU – SANTA CRUZ/FLOREANA – After breakfast a short easy hike called the Tortoise Quest Tour beginning at “Los Gemelos” two collapsed lava chambers a reminder of nature’s power.  We may see finches, the vermillion flycatcher and more.  After, visit a 600 acre reserve where the giant Galapagos tortoises freely roam.  Sometimes muddy so boots will be available.  Transport by truck or foot through the fields to mingle with these gentle giants.  End the day with a walk through an illuminated uneven floored lava tunnel. Return to the lodge for lunch.   2:00 PM a 1 1/2 to 2 hour sail to the island of Floreana.  Visit Black Beach to swim, snorkel or simply relax.  Check in the 10 cabin Floreana Lodge.  BBQ dinner will be at a local restaurant where one of the first families to arrive at the island tells you about the mysteries of the island. OCT 29 FRI – FLOREANA/ISABELA –   AM departure by open-air bus to the highlands of Floreana.  Walk to see Cueva de los Pirates to see why the pirates settled here.  On “Bird Hill” see multitudes of Floreana Finches and visit a different tortoise reserve.  Approximately 11:00 AM depart for the island of Isabela sailing time 1.5 – 2 hours.  The clear turquoise water will take your breath away. Sea lions and penguins may be clearly viewed.  Check in the 8 room Isabela Lodge followed by lunch.  About 2:30 depart for Las Tintoreras and Bay Tour.  Walk through a jagged lava field passing marine iguanas and canals full of white-tipped reef sharks.  Dinner at the Isabela lodge. OCT 30 SAT – ISABELA/SANTA CRUZ – AM drive the travel magazine cover beach stretching 3 kilometers before we reach the National Park.  We will walk many steps for the astounding vistas from the top of Cerro Orchilla.  You will visit the Muro de Las Lagrimas built by prisoners of a penal colony with jagged volcanic rocks.  Birds are usually incredibly abundant here and your Naturalist Guide will identify them all for you.  Isabela has more tortoises in the wild than any other island.  About 11:00 AM depart for Santa Cruz sailing time 1.5 to 2 hours.  Arrive in Puerto Ayora and transfer to the Aventura Lodge to check in and have lunch.  At 3:00 PM we leave for a guided tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station.  Then time to browse shops along Charles Darwin Avenue.  Dinner 7:00 PM at the Aventura Lodge. OCT 31 SUN BALTRA/GYE/UIO XL #1550 0920A/1400P – Transfer by ferry to Baltra for our flight to Quito.  Arrive in Quito and transfer to the Hilton Hotel.  Remainder of the day at leisure until our Private Farewell Folklore Dinner show. (Snack on plane & D)

OCT 08 FRI MIAMI-PANAMA CM #4211 5:23PM/7:28PM   Depart Miami for a fantastic trip to the new Panama. Arrival transfer to hotel.  Dinner Galeria Restaurant and overnight at the Deluxe Crowne Plaza Hotel. (D)

OCT 09 SAT PANAMA - After breakfast, early AM transfer by bus to the pier.  The vessel used will be accompanied by a larger vessel and a Canal Pilot as we navigate two sets of locks.  Your journey on this historic canal will end at the Gamboa Dredging Division, where the River Chagres joins the canal and the Gatun Lake opens up in front of us. Lunch served on board.  Dinner at the Galeria Restaurant Crowne Plaza Hotel. (B, L & D)

OCT 10 SUN PANAMA/GAMBOA RAINFOREST RESORT: Early breakfast at the Crowne Plaza followed by a 45 minute transfer to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort Hotel.  Upon arrival we will take the Monkey Island tour where we boat through the Panama Canal into secret waterways to find hidden islands that are the favorites of Cappuccino and Howler monkeys.  Occasionally, they become curious of visitors and venture down to take a closer look. The resort is a five star property with views of the Chagras River and Gatun Lake.  After lunch at the Lagartos Restaurant at the hotel we will enjoy an aerial tram tour. Experience the verdant rainforest ascending some 280 feet from the shadowy forest floor traveling a distance of some 1,200 meters. Dinner and overnight at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. (B, L & D)

OCT 11 MON GAMBOA RAINFOREST RESORT/EMBERA:  After breakfast at the Corotu restaurant, embark on your journey to experience the indigenous village & people of the Embera tribe. You will ride a “piraguas” (dug out canoe) up river to the community.  There you will experience the history and culture of these indigenous through traditional dances, craftsmanship and includes a typical lunch. Here you will have the opportunity to try an ancestral custom in the form of a tattoo with vegetable seed extract that the indigenous use to adorn their bodies.  Dinner and overnight at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.  (B, L & D)

OCT 12 TUE PANAMA/PLAYA BONITA: After breakfast at the Corotu restaurant, a 45 minute transfer from the Gamboa Rainforest Resort to the Intercontinental Playa Bonita Resort. Lunch at the Pelican Grill Restaurant followed by free time to enjoy this wonderful resort. Dinner at the Plantation Café Restaurant in the hotel and overnight at the International Playa Bonita. OCT 13 WED-PANAMA/PLAYA BONITA: After breakfast at the Plantation restaurant, transfer to Panama City to tour the vibrant and cosmopolitan city built by Pedro Arias Davila, a Spanish Governor in 1519. It has been considered as one of the most important cities of the Americas.  The full day city and canal tour will give a detailed focus on the most relevant sites of Panama City and the Panama Canal Area.  Also on that tour we will visit the Miraflores Locks & Canal.  An expert canal guide will take us back in time to be part of it and enjoy a breathtaking view of the 8th wonder of the World.
